Do you need a pig nose when you travel to Japan?

I heard that Japan uses 110v, so do I have to take the pig nose?

And what I'm curious about is that I can just plug it in when I charge my phone?

Or do you have a 220v plug in only at a hotel or do you plug it in because there's a transformer?
