If flight arrival delays occur when boarding via aircraft

What happens when you miss the next flight due to the delay in arrival of the first flight when you make a stopover?

Since it was delayed by the airline, can you prepare another flight by yourself?

Or should I look for a flight that is canceled or partially refunded and then the passengers arrive on their own?
