Pocket Wi-Fi vs USIM comparison when traveling to Japan

I'm going to travel to Japan and I'm going to stay for about a week.

I'm planning to go with 3 friends, but I was originally thinking about doing local USIM because it was cheap abroad, but I'm worried that there's a good pocket Wi-Fi in Japan.
