How do you read the restaurant menu while traveling in Japan?

I'm planning to travel to Osaka, Japan, but when I went to Europe before, I had a hard time because I didn't know what it meant if it wasn't English. I heard that Japan doesn't use English more, but how do you look at the menu when you eat?
