Can't I use a wireless LAN like a router without a router?

I came to play, but I didn't have a router, so I only have wired LAN instead.

I think I heard before that I can use it like a router using a wireless LAN card attached to my laptop by hardwired connection to my laptop.  Do you know what kind of method it is?
